About us

CHINCH - Initiative for research and production of contemporary music and "live" arts, was founded in Belgrade, in October 2002. It was created with a purpose to establish a platform for research, presentation and production of new music and mixed media art forms. With changing of musical paradigm in past few decades, it became inevitable to think music and other arts as deprived of autonomy and to conceptualize this fact interdisciplinary. The role of theory and musicology, according to CHINCH, is to pinpoint events and practices that lead to shifting of notion of music and sound, as well as to question and redefine other dominant existing categories. In that way, a creative exchange should take place between those who write music and those who write about music. In the same time, a relationship between arts is also put under consideration, with special emphasis on those arts that are performative and affective.

CHINCH is therefore divided in subgroups, each dedicated to different problematic (music, theatre, visual arts) that are in continuous dialogue.

The activity of CHINCH is directed to organizing lectures and workshops of today's most compelling musicians and artist, as well as to creating a space of expression for those who want to create a different view of music and arts than the one that conventional wisdom of artworld endorses.

First CHINCH project, online magazine Explicit Music was established in cooperation with multimedia institute MAMA from Zagreb.
